Obituary for Marie Chiapperino

Marie Chiapperino

Lima - Entered into the presence of the Lord on September 21, 2023, at the age of 89. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Elsie Chiapperino, and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as their children and grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Clara Chiapperino, as well as her three siblings – Frank Chiapperino, Dorothy Contino, and Mike Chiapperino.

A resident of Astoria, Queens, New York, from her birth until she moved to Lima, New York, in 1971, Marie cared for her mother until Clara died in 1978.

Marie was known and appreciated for her long tenure as director of Wee Care Nursery School in Lima (1971-2012). In this role, she had the pleasure of pouring her life into hundreds of preschoolers, watching them grow into adults, and later greeting their children as students!

Wee Care Christmas concerts and graduation ceremonies were annual highlights for parents, the community, and the Lima Baptist Church family.

Marie also began serving as part-time secretary at Lima Baptist Church in 1987. She was honored at a memorable appreciation/retirement reception celebrating her 25 years of service in 2012.

“Aunt Marie’s” soft spot was young children, beginning with her nieces and nephews, who have fond memories of quality time with her. They fondly remember the “radio shows” she hosted and produced with them on her reel-to-reel tape recorder every Christmas. In these MC Productions, she interviewed the
children, quizzed them about their lives, invited them to tell jokes, and directed them in singing Christmas carols. More than a half-century later, now these tapes are treasured family heirlooms.

In recent years, Marie thoroughly enjoyed getting acquainted with the smallest members of the family, some of her nieces’ and nephews’ grandchildren – both in person and via Facebook interactions.

Family and friends are invited to call Friday, October 6, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. at the Avon Wesleyan Church, 300 Genesee St., Avon, followed by a celebration of life, following calling hours at 1:00 p.m. Interment
North Bloomfield Cemetery.
