Obituary for James B Gaffney

AVON: Passed away Thursday April 28, 2022 with his family by his side, at the age of 96. Predeceased by his parents, Bart and Mary Rose Gaffney, Mother and Father-in-Law, Alfred and Mary Cole. Brother William Gaffney, sister Monica Carey, brother John Gaffney.

Survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Gloria (Cole) Gaffney. Also survived by children, Kimberley (Glenn) Chapple, Timothy (Laura) Gaffney, Judith (Bruce) Dangelmaier. Five Grandchildren, Gregory Chapple, Victoria Gaffney-Eaton (Chad), Stephan Gaffney, Amy & Amber Dangelmaier. Sisters-in-Law, Carolyn Gaffney, Molly Cole, June (Ed) Hall, Jackie (Al) DeCook, Brother-in-Law Tim (Donna) Cole. Many nieces and nephews.

Jim grew up on the family dairy farm in Rush and moved to Avon in 1961. He worked in the banking business for 38 years primarily with Marine Midland Bank in the Avon office. Jim was a lifelong member of the Avon Rotary Club serving as treasurer for 29 years. He received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award in 1989. He also served as an Avon Village Board Trustee. Jim loved his family with all his heart and his five grandchildren were the center of his world.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on 7-3400 and 8-3600 at Strong Memorial Hospital and especially Dr. Karai Balaji for his excellent care over the years.

No prior calling hours. Jim's funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday May 4th, at 10:30 am at St. Agnes Church, Avon, NY. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery, Avon, NY.
