Avon – March 23, 2019 at age 85. She is survived by her children Beth Ann (Philip) McLaughlin of Pittsburgh, PA, Scott (Kathleen) Brown of Mechanicsville, VA; brother in law Jerry McCurdy; brother, Daniel (Teresa) Hudson; grandchildren, Robert, Alyssa McLaughlin, Kellie, Todd Brown; sister-in-law, Betty Brown; many nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Russell Brown, and sister, Barbara McCurdy.
Janet was a graduate of Cazenovia Central School and Geneseo State Teachers College. She was a substitute Teacher in the Avon Central School District while her children were growing up and taught in the High School resource room from 1978 until 1993 when she retired. Janet was an active member of the Avon United Methodist Church, and a member of the Avon United Methodist Women. Janet loved to sew and quilt, she also loved to knit and cross stitch. She played bridge and golf in her retirement. Janet loved watching sports with Russell, and was a life-long New York Yankee fan.
In July 2017 Janet became a resident of Arden Court Memory care facility in Pittsburgh, PA, where she could be found in the kitchen with a smile on her face, sweeping the floor, wiping off tables, folding napkins, or helping the “kids”. She will be missed by all her caregivers.
Memorial Service will be held on June 15, 2019 at 10 A.M.at the Avon United Methodist Church, 130 Genesee Street, Avon. Private Interment Avon Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cazenovia Public Library 100 Albany St. Cazenovia, NY 13035.
